Somerset On Grace Bay, Turks and Caicos traveler review

This is the best resort on Grace Bay. Visited: August 2008
Posted by justjack
We have traveled to many islands and have fallen in love with TCI. We just got back from our second trip.

Our first stay was at The Somerset. Wow. We were blown away by the suites. We stayed in a one-bedroom English Cottage, with full Viking stainless kitchen, two full baths, and beautifully furnished living and dining room. There was also a great big master, plus a loft with a sofa bed and third plasma TV - nicer than most homes!

The staff was so nice, helpful, and friendly.

The two restaurants were great, and the pool bar was nice and offered great casual fare. The upscale , O'Soleil was so beautiful, and offered fantastic food! The complimentary breakfast was served here every am. It was the perfect spot to start the day!

We love it, and plan to return.

Somerset was sensational. Visited: August 2008

I have traveled to at least a dozen islands, and Turks and Caicos and the Somerset heads our list.

We encountered friendly staff, great service and a most beautiful environment. The suites were immaculate with the highest of finishes, stunning architecture and well layed out grounds and pools.

They had the most comfortable beach loungers and excellent beach service.

We have already made return reservations. It was a fabulous, relaxing vacation that exceeded our expectations.

Club Med Turkoise, Turks and Caicos traveler review

Needs some updating Visited: August 2008
Posted by caribbeanqueen
I have just returned from a week at Club Med Turkoise. The staff was excellent. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff. They were friendly, helpful, accommodating, and genuinely caring. From the Chief of Sports (Gentil), to the sailing instructor (John) and even the employees of the boutique (notably Sarah) I was extremely happy and actually sad to leave. The bar staff was also great!

Before my stay I was slightly worried about the food and drinks included in my all-inclusive package. The drinks were perfect, and the food was amazing. You are going to want to order some chocolate bread to take home.

The room was nicely appointed, and a good size. It could use a decor update, but as a decorator I might just be nitpicking. However, the bed was not very comfortable and I found the water closet unappealing and think it could be updated and tiled to match the lovely decor in the shower and sink room. The closet space was ample, the view was lovely, and the maintenance and housekeeping staff were excellent. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous and I was very happy with all the activities that were available and the shows the staff puts on.

A Turks and Caicos travel review

Please be cautious!
Posted by k_train55
We had heard that 'this is the safest island in the Caribbean'. But please be cautious.

When my husband and I arrived for our honeymoon, we asked several staff members whether or not it was okay/safe to walk in Grace Bay. Most staff said "Yes- you can" and one said "If your lady is looking nice, she probably won't want to walk". None of these statements cautioned us to the possible danger awaiting us.

On Friday evening, our last night in Turks and Caicos, my husband and I ate dinner at Coco Bistro, and walked to the Port of Call. Around 11:00, we were nearly to The Regent Palms, on foot, when an older SUV pulled behind us, on the wrong side of the road, and two men demanded our money and wallets! With dangerously intimidating knives, my purse was stolen, within 25 feet to the entrance to The Regent Palms hotel.

Security officers and local police did speak with us, and we gave several witness statements. No one has been apprehended in the case, however.

We wish we would have known this information before taking our honeymoon in Turks and Caicos. Unfortunately, the beautiful beaches and gorgeous hotel have been overshadowed by this truly shocking and terribly upsetting incident.

This is the most amazing beach in the Caribbean.

This beach has to be seen to be believed. It shallows out very slowly - which makes it perfect for little kids. We love to bring a bottle of wine and watch the sun go down.

The place was great. It was very quiet and secluded. The house was very clean and comfortable, too.

The air conditioning was a little weak, and some shutters didn't work (which welcomed in some early sunshine).

All in all, the place was excellent, and I would book again. Taylor Bay Beach was perfect, too, if you want to get away and be quiet.

Hemingways , Providenciales traveler review

They provided excellent service and had great food!
Posted by girlwithbrowndog
We stayed just down the beach, but dined at Hemingway's twice during our vacation. Dinner was incredible, and the service was superb.

Ask for Korna! He was attentive, personable, friendly and kind. No other dinner experience compared.

My mom had the fish and chips, which was excellent (under $14), and I had the catch of the day (which was a little more pricy, but delicious).

Our breakfast a couple of days later was tasty as well. The prices were not at all out of line. Breakfast was $8-9 per plate. I had three pancakes with slivered almonds, fresh strawberries and bananas, and whipped cream.

What an incredible location! In an effort to conserve water, we did not opt for housekeeping, but our room was very clean upon check-in.

While amenities like flat screen TVs or updated furnishings did not exist, the room was efficient. I wish there had been either a microwave or toaster, however.

The continental breakfast was toast, fruit, o.j. and coffee. There were no substitutions, but extras (eggs, a side of bacon, an English muffin) were only $2-3 additional.

Junior, the bartender on the website, was the most friendly employee at this hotel. Unfortunately, most (not all) other people were unfriendly and/or disinterested in anything resembling customer service.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Sands for a week.

From the time we entered the resort, we were greeted by wonderful staff. The bellman, front desk staff, and the concierge were wonderful.

Overall, the hotel was beautiful. We enjoyed our stay, and will definitely go back.

Sibonne Beach Hotel, Turks and Caicos traveler review

This is a great option. Visited: March 2008

This is a great deal if your plan is to relax, walk on the beach and have a great time. It has the best location, and you can walk to both sides on the beach and everything is very close.

The breakfast that included is normal. The rooms are clean and just what you need. If you want to party every night, this is not your hotel. However, you can walk to the other hotels nearby, or get a taxi to a local bar.

The hotel staff is very kind, and the cocktails are the best. The pool is very small, but is not needed since the ocean is very calm and just feet away. The restaurant is a little classy, excellent option and great cocktails. Also, you can walk to Hemingway's at the Sands, which is very good.

We had dinner on the beach at sunset. It will set you back a pretty penny, but it is well worth the experience. This is a must on places to eat. They have the longest bar in town.

St. Charles North Caicos, North Caicos traveler review

This hotel should not be opened yet. Visited: May 2008
Posted by kristin22
We planned a week-long stay at the St. Charles expecting a beautiful pool (we chose this hotel over others for that specific purpose).

On our way up to our room, we noticed the beautiful insect life which colonizes the hotel walls. I would advise not taking the elevator since one time during our stay, it froze up. The bugs also ventured into our bed a few times.

To keep this short and sweet, here is a list of things missing from our room:

1. Items missing from the kitchen included pot holders, dishtowels, table knives, can opener, broom, spatula, strainer, trash can (of adequate size.... too tiny), ice maker, salt and pepper, dish detergent (dishwasher was useless without it).

2. Items missing from the pool were water and chlorine. Things not missing from the pool were hermit crabs, various water beetles, and slime.

3. Things missing in general included a working safe (ours was broken), DVD remote and one TV remote control. Also, the towel rack in bathroom was ripped off the wall.

In addition, our curtains were off the track, and the sliding doors were dirty (obviously not cleaned for awhile). The room was cleaned once every two or three days, but not daily.

We will say the suite was very big, and the bed was comfortable.

If you visit North Caicos, be sure to get in touch with Jay from Bottle Creek. He will take you fishing, and he is very hospitable (in fact, more so than our hotel staff).

The bottom line is: this place has a lot of potential, but it is not ready yet. It should not be opened right now with the pool 2/3 full, and the hotel being short staffed.

Club Med Turkoise, Providenciales traveler review

We had a terrible stay here. Visited: May 2008
Posted by bfree
The room was a little more than a little appalling. I will start at the entrance of the room, and work my way forward.

The door only had a push-in lock (like the one you find in a some bathrooms). There was no deadbolt, or even chain lock once you are inside the room. On the right was an old timey window that had three slits that opened and closed (not very well). Because of these antiquated windows, the room got fairly humid when it rained, and it didn’t stay too cool (this could also be the poor A/C unit).

One of our rooms had a broken A/C unit, but the front desk at Club Med Turks and Caicos stated it was not broken. On the window base was a blackish colored mold that was accented very well with the mold that was growing on the window treatments.

On the left was the commode that was in a little room by itself. There was no A/C, so you had to make it quick! It got hot, and because there was a widow that opened to the outside walkway, it was always nice to think that the people walking by are going to hear you as you go.

The next door on the left was the door to the sink and shower. The bathroom door didn’t close because it appeared that when they remolded it and added a little six-inch deep table, they forget to factor in the door actually closing.

Also, the shower kept changing from hot to cold the whole time. Setting it to cold, while not ideal, will at least keep at one temperature
