Caribbean Tourist Villa, Trinidad and Tobago traveler review

A CARIBBEAN TOURIST VILLA WAS NOT WORTH IT... A CARIBBEAN TOURIST SHELTER IS MORE LIKE IT!!! Visited: December 2008
Posted by 100%trinidjpj
WE ARRIVED AT 3AM ON XMAS DAY.

They could not find my reservation. (whicH was emailed and confirmed with a credit card)

IN THE LOBBY A SIGN READS "NO REFUNDS ON ACCOMMODATIONS" (first sign that others have not been pleased with their stay)

Went upstairs to the room which had 3 beds,a fridge (unplugged), a tv in a shaky undersized table ready to collapse plugged into a long ghetto extension cords that was unplugged thank goodness. The Shower had hair from the last guests and black small round things which fell from the dropped ceiling where the rodents played as soon as the room was quiet at night or when it rained(I thought there was a third floor, on the second night I realized it was rodents.
We stayed 3 nights our room was NEVER cleaned.
In the mornings I had to ask for milk for the complimentary coffee.
There was a kitchen in the rear of the first floor, upon entrance the sign read: THERE IS A $40 FEE TO USE THE KITCHEN ($40TT).
NO WHERE IN THE BROCHURE DOES IT SAY EXTRA CHARGE FOR KITCHEN USE.
THE POOL AND THE EXTERIOR ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT LIVED UP TO THE BROCHURE.
IS THERE GOING TO BE A POOL FEE NEXT?
MANAGEMENT WAS UNABLE TO BE FOUND, NO SUGGESTION BOX ONLY A CASH REGISTER.
WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY, ENERGY AND TIME
STAY SOMEPLACE ELSE. PA MAY LAS IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!

Castara Retreats, Tobago traveler review

My family & I had a great time!

The staff & service were outstanding, & Birdsong is a delightful place to stay.

The wildlife in the gardens were fantastic. We particularly like the candle flies (fireflies). We will be returning to Tobago, & if it's not booked up we'll be staying at Castara Retreats.

Tropikist Beach Hotel, Tobago traveler review

It was excellent. Visited: December 2008
Posted by flier
My wife and I stayed at the Tropikist at the end of November. This hotel was truly unique. It was not like a major hotel chain. It had character and ambiance of its own.

The staff was friendly and helpful. Remember, if you are friendly with them they will return the favor. Just try and be nice, speak to them politely, and they will give you the world. We even got a free upgrade to a deluxe room.

The front staff was extremely helpful, and we can't fault them. Mr. Samaroo was excellent, always helpful, and always there. Please disregard the negative comments. I have not seen him in any rooms. He has a team of people to do the work.

The food was excellent. We got hot fresh food daily, and the rooms were cleaned. We can't fault the hotel or its staff. But don't go expecting five star for the price you pay at this hotel.

Castara Retreats, Tobago traveler review

We had a beautiful wedding and holiday here. Visited: November 2008
Posted by bartdevisser
We stayed at Castara Retreats for two weeks, and were delighted about the beauty of the lodges and the garden. The staff was very friendly and always helpful.

Lots of birds visited the garden, and the view from the bedroom and balcony was wonderful.

With help from the manager, we got married under the pagoda at Castara Retreats and all we had to do was ten minutes of paperwork in Scarborough. The ceremony was lovely with nice ocean and rainforest views, a good meal and at night some drinks with local people from Castara.

I would be leery of the manager. Visited: November 2008

After booking in the hotel, the manager was always in my room. His reasons were - making sure the guests were happy, or checking the hot-cold temperature.

I believe the man is mad.

Enchanted Waters Hotel, Tobago traveler review

It was really enchanting. Visited: January 2008

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. It was truly "enchanting".

The staff was friendly, and the food was delicious and always on time.

The room was oh so heavenly. It created the atmosphere needed for those nights we spent there.

Also, the owners were adorable. I really loved them. There was not a day when we were not asked if we were okay, if everything was alright, or if we needed anything. They were beautiful.

The hotel itself had a beautiful ambiance. The name suits the environment of the hotel.

Monique's Guest House, Trinidad traveler review

It was disgusting. Visited: October 2008
Posted by kirlene
If I begin to talk about Monique's Guest House, I probably won't finish because of how disgusted I am of the place, and how I feel like I was cheated by the owner.

I stayed at Monique's in October 2008 because I had a family funeral to attend. The first night, there were roaches in the bathtub. They switched our room, my mom and I that is, for it was almost midnight.

By the next day, I decided to boil some water in their kettle for some tea. As I opened the electric kettle, I almost vomited it was so filthy and dirty. It looked as if it had not been washed for months.

Before we reported this, they called saying we had to leave the room as they said someone had reserved the room (although we were told it was low season). We had already unpacked everything, so we had to repack (and they showed no sympathy).

We brought the kettle to the manager's attention. She said it was because of the weather, and that it must have happened in a couple days or so. It was nasty, gross, unsanitary - you name it. She offered nothing, and we were easy going as we were only in town for a funeral.

To make a long story short - I wish I had called the health department. Monique's Guest House was not the place for me. In addition, she told us to have breakfast on the house. I realized when we got back to Toronto, our Visa has been charged $30 for that.

I am furious, and advise no one to stay here.

VHL Tobago Golf & Spa Resort, Tobago traveler review

It was a bit disappointing. Visited: February 2008
Posted by rlewis
We made reservations to stay at the Hilton for a weekend in February. The check-in time was around 3 pm. Even though we arrived at 7 pm, our room was not ready for two more hours. We had the kids with us - two of them - and they had to sleep in our arms until around 9 pm. Did I mention that I was seven months pregnant as well?

We were given a complimentary buffet dinner, but that was hardly enjoyed considering our state of mind (and the fact that a lot of the dishes were finished).

The restaurant staff was generally friendly - except for the chef making the omlette on the Sunday morning. He was a bit rude.

The entertainment left much to be desired. There was not much to do at night, and we were forced to turn in early.

All in all, the stay was lovely, though. The pool area was great, and we had great weather.

Crowne Plaza Hotel Port of Spain/Trinidad, Trinidad traveler review

I received terrible service. Visited: August 2008
Posted by cupidsfaith
During my stay at this hotel, I found out very early that the food was not prepared properly and clean. The cutlery at the hotel was dirty, and clearly not cleaned properly. I ended up buying food from a fast food outlet near by and took it back to my room.

Afterward, I went to the pool. It is very small - like a hot tub. When I went up to my room after, I found that someone had eaten out of my food in my room. The only people who had access to my room were housekeeping staff. When I reported it to the front desk, they did not seem to care and they told me that they could not do anything about that.

Both elevators in the hotel were out of service for my entire stay. Apparently, they had no intentions to fix it either.

This was the worst hotel I ever stayed at.

Tropikist Beach Hotel, Tobago traveler review

Hello again! Visited: October 2008

We have just returned from a 14-night stay at Tropikist. This is my third year staying here.

You have to understand - it is a three-star hotel, and any travel company that indicates anything different are sharks.

This aside, the staff - Mr. Samaroo (hope you're feeling better), Larry and Ali, plus all the girls - will go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Be aware that if you smile and are pleasant, you will make reap the rewards, if you treat the staff with contempt - you can expect it back.

Tropikist Beach Hotel, Tobago traveler review

This was a fantastic Caribbean getaway. Visited: September 2008
Posted by dipfay
I am not one to normally post reviews on the Internet, as I feel sometimes these reviews are skewed and most times really forms a persons own bias view.

My husband and I returned from a one-week vacation from the Tropikist Hotel. Most travelers go to the Tropikist (and this in my opinion is unfair to the hotel) with a mind set of what not to expect, after reading all the negative comments.

Some reviews depicted Mr. Sam (the general manager) in a negative light. However, I found this young man to be a gem. He seemed very hardworking, and worked long hours. Also, nothing seemed to be a problem for this man. All you have to simply do is meet with him, explain your situation and he would try his best to solve it.

Keep in mind, he has limited resources to work with. The hotel is a family owned and operated entity, so there is little he can really do. However, this man works hard. I hope his employers see that.

The hotel itself was a bit tired, and needs some cosmetic surgery (Sam said work would commence soon). The room we had (room 87) had a lovely view of the gardens and the ocean, and from the balcony we could see Sammy working early in the morning - around 5 am.

The staff was fantastic. Most important, they all have a heart!

I stayed here for ten days with my husband, and it was very convenient.

I would recommend this place if you are on a budget, but still want to feel like you are home.

Tropikist Beach Hotel, Tobago traveler review

We had an excellent stay. Visited: September 2008

My husband and I returned from staying at the Tropikist Beach Hotel, and we had a wonderful time.

The hotel setting was just fabulous; the food was excellent; and the service was top of the line. I am shocked at the last reviews posted against the manager. He was such a nice person. He treated all the guests professionally, and his employees even better. No staff member was ill treated, and all staff members had high praise for him.

Please disregard those negative comments. Go enjoy your stay. The hotel is a bit tired, but the staff is fantastic. Do enjoy your holiday!

This hotel is totally run down.

I stayed at the Tropikist Hotel, and the place was run down.

The sheets had holes in them, and were dirty. It took three hours to get replacement sheets. Also, the pillows smelled bad.

The staff was polite. I had to complain to the manager, Samaroo, who was very rude.

Manager Samaroo treated is guests terribly. Visited: August 2008

I spent two nights at the hotel, and I met the manager. He treated his employees horribly - and in front of the guess at the hotel.

My AC was not working, so an employee came to check it out. Mr Samaroo came in and started to insult his staff. The staff is great, but the manager will cause a lot of people to leave that hotel.

Blue Waters Inn, Tobago traveler review

Thanks for the wonderful memories. Visited: July 2008

I would like to commend Blue Waters Inn for having such an amazing group of people working for them. We really couldn't have asked for more friendly, courteous, and beautiful people to be around during our stay.

I would especially like to mention some really nice people who make Blue Waters Inn the special place that it is - Amanda at reception; Sylester and Kim in the bar; Mark in maintenance; Erica, Malaika, Gillian, Pinkie, and Avion in the restaurant; Eudora in housekeeping; Karen and the entire staff of Aquamarine Dive.

These people were a large part of the reason I will return as soon as possible to Tobago and Blue Waters Inn.

My mother, fiance, two of my aunts and I stayed here for five days, and we loved every moment of it.

The staff was wonderful, and the atmosphere was great.

I encourage anyone to choose Belle Viste for a fun and relaxing stay in Tobago. Book early, as it fills up fast. I hope to visit here soon again - and for maybe longer. I wish I was still there!
